Summer Johnson - Co-Founder

Summer Johnson is the Co-Founder of Upward Magazine, and has traveled all over the world with her husband and two children. Summer is an artist that has a BFA and had sold her artwork in shows and galleries extensively. Summer currently resides on her country estate outside of Manhattan where she shepherds a dozen chickens, two Red Dobermans and helps with two hives of honey bees. Outside of starting a magazine, her favorite travel times have been swimming in the beaches of Sydney and visiting Psy’s recording studio in Korea.

Sebastian Bland - Creative Director

Sebastian’s flair for design is what gives SUITCASE its inimitable appearance. Seb became one of the first members to join the team, designing our print edition, apps and website. A countryman through and through, he often escapes the city for the Cornish coast and the Shropshire countryside where he grew up. Forever in search of the ultimate burger, Seb is the inventor of Five Guys Fridays and knows his way around the steakhouses of Buenos Aires like the back of his hand.

Emily Ames - Managing Editor

Growing up between London, New York and Trinidad & Tobago, Emily travelled extensively across the Americas before ending up in Barcelona in 2012. It was here that she began her career at SUITCASE, writing a column on her experiences in the Catalan capital. Music in all its forms is the driving force behind Emily’s travels across the globe – catch her at an old-school street dance in Portland, Jamaica or a samba club in Brazil.

Travel philosophy: “Adventure, yeah. I guess that's what you call it when everybody comes back alive.” – Mercedes Lackey.

On the bucket-list: The Deep South, USA.

Kate Hamilton - Senior Editor

Kate grew up across three continents; she lived in the Deep South in her pre-teen years but shook off the southern drawl when she moved to Hong Kong. After spending a year in Barcelona and Madrid, where she worked at Vogue Spain, Kate began editing and writing for SUITCASE. With a dual First Class degree from Edinburgh University in English and Spanish, Kate is most definitely the linguist of the team, and always travels with books and an excessive amount of stationery.

She has worked in Tokyo, Seoul, Iceland and the Philippines and has shot at some of the most famous locations in the world including the Maracaña Stadium in Rio and the City Palace in Jaipur.

Maria Alafouzou - Head of Digital

Maria brings a wealth of travel expertise after stints in Paris at the International New York Times and National Geographic. Her passport is full of stamps and she’s always on the lookout for her next adventure. Travel philosophy: "Screw it" (Jumps.)

On the bucket-list: Greenland, Botswana, Chile.

Natalie Kenneally - Head of Partnerships

Having worked in publishing for over 12 years and as the oldest member of the team, Natalie is a media veteran. Her work has taken her around the globe but she has never resided far from her hometown of London.
Be it a project for SUITCASE, her next travel adventure, a birthday, a wedding or a home renovation, Natalie is happiest when she is planning. (Seriously, she'll plan your wedding for you free of charge.) When she is not planning anything, you'll catch her escaping the city at a spa, soaking up the sun in Greece or island hopping in the Indian Ocean. Her favourite travel experience to date was swimming with oceanic mantas and whale sharks in the Maldives.

On the bucket-list: Diving Ambergris Caye in Belize and walking the Inca trail

SAVANNAH BAKER - Fashion Editor-at-Large

She has worked with Lana del Ray and Rita Ora and has styled SUITCASE shoots in Jamaica, L.A., Las Vegas and Greece, while her work as both a stylist and photographer has featured in i-D., Dazed, and Vogue Italia. After graduating from Oxford University, Lindsay moved to New York City to work in film and digital media (leaving everything behind except her dry sense of humour). The American-Brit has been part of the SUITCASE team since day one – partying with Nile Rogers in Miami, battling alligators in New Orleans and sampling Wes Anderson-themed restaurants in Shoreditch. As New York Editor, Lindsay is our US point of call and oversees all things NYC. She also remains the only one we know to use her iPad as a pillow when travelling.
